FINALLY!!! Alan was granted leave and with our island fever, we decided to head up to Tokyo for a few days. It was pleasantly relaxing and a most fun city. Our hotel the New Sano was fabulous and located next door to the French Embassy (par le voui france?) The neighborhood (Hiroo) was a fun mix of western and european, little cafe’s and serene shopping area’s with parks scattered here and there and a Starbucks on EVERY corner.

Our first stop was Roppongi, a major shopping district complete with the original Mikimoto store and every high end designer you can think about all lined up on about 3 city blocks. People in Tokyo still dress to shop.. so no cutoffs and T’s! Woman donned their best and men were in suits. We stopped briefly in Mikimoto and decided it was a bit to rich for us and headed down the way to peek into Prada, Gucci, Chanel and Cartier’s before deciding we needed to wait a few years before popping into those stores again! Perhaps another trip to Hong Kong and their night markets.. or maybe a few of the back alleys in Tokyo for something “comparable”

Next we headed to Tokyo Disney... sure sure if you have seen one Disney you have seen them all, and given that I worked at the one in Orlando and was Disney’d out... we decided that Katie needed to go, even if she would not really remember and the rides and attractions were more for Alan and me.

All in all it was as to be expected from a Disney resort, but WAY Japanese! Soy & Macha flavored popcorn anyone? Also, since when did cinderella and Prince Charming become Asian? Still we had a blast and Katie was so exhausted by the end of the day she did not even flinch when we changed her!

After Disney we decided to hit some Japanese places and went sightseeing... and shopping! We brought home a Wedding Kimono, custom knives and iron tea kettle.

On our last day we went to the Tsukiji Fish Market, the busiest market in the world! Alan all the while turning blue from holding his breath... I was nice and decided instead of eating at one of the sushi stalls ( I don’t think sushi can be any fresher than this) we headed away from the market and right into a McDonalds... seriously! Oh well, maybe next time! After McD’s we walked to this amazing park that was once private gardens for a Shogun and his family! So beautiful and smack in the heart of Tokyo.

The trip was amazing and we highly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to visit! If you are eligible, the New Sano was a magnificent hotel especially for the price and location.

She also started to pull up and walk around furniture.

She loves to push her cart around and see what mommy is up to in the kitchen... and taking a bath in Reagan’s water dish.

This month also brought Amanda’s 31st birthday (boo) and a few days of leave for Alan. We packed up and headed to Tokyo for a few days...
